Three Steps to Gain Your American Heart Association Instructor Certification

Step One:

The first step is completing the AHA Instructor Essentials Course on-line. The On-line course will discuss rules regarding keeping your instructor status current, how to plan and prepare for classes, regulations regarding written exams (if required by students), and how to perform skills practice and testing for your customers. Once you complete the on-line course, the system will generate a certificate of completion. You must print out and bring the certificate of completion to the 8 Hour In-Person Instructor Course. Depending on your experience, the Instructor Essentials course takes between 2 and 4 hours to complete.

Step Two:

Step Two of the Instructor Program is a full day of class held at Willow Grove CPR in Willow Grove, PA, devoted to information on how to run a course, including organization and maintenance of AHA cards, advertising and marketing, cleaning and maintaining necessary equipment, changes in CPR guidelines and their rationale, skills testing and written exams. This step will take approximately eight hours. Lunch will be provided for you.

Step Three:

The Third Step is to be monitored and evaluated while teaching a course. This step can be completed during one of Willow Grove CPR's many classes, or you may be supervised at your own facility (depending on location.) You must complete this step within 6 months after completion of Step two.

All participants must also possess a valid BLS for Healthcare Provider certification card issued by the American Heart Association.

After completing all three steps, you will gain your American Heart Association BLS CPR Instructor Certification Card and you will be able to conduct classes on your own.
